Getting Started With TTMD-R

In order to implement the TTMD-R Program, a site needs to identify individuals to act in the following roles:

  • TTMD Speech-language pathologist
  • TTMD Facilitator

The diagram is for illustrative purposes and not intended to show a ratio of Facilitators / front-line staff. A minimum of two Facilitators is recommended for each site in order to provide adequate coverage.
  • The TTMD-R is implemented by a speech-language pathologist. Their role, known here out as the TTMD SLP, is to train and support TTMD Facilitators and to provide swallowing assessments when indicated by the results of the TTMD-R Test.
  • Each facility is recommended to have a minimum of two staff members designated as TTMD Facilitators. The TTMD SLP trains the Facilitators in their role.
  • TTMD Facilitators provide the front line staff education, which includes training staff in the use of the TTMD-R feeding and swallowing screening tool.
  • Facilitators are also trained to complete the full TTMD-R Test protocol. The full TTMD-R Test is completed when the initial screening indicates it’s warranted. The TTMD-R Test assists in the determination of an appropriate diet texture and the development of a basic feeding and swallowing management plan. The TTMD-R Test will also identify residents who may benefit from a referral to SLP for a comprehensive swallowing assessment.

Each facility interested in using the TTMD-R must purchase a minimum of one manual in order to implement the program. Purchase of the manual allows unlimited distribution and use of the TTMD-R Test Form and education material.
