Welcome To TTMD-Revised
Feeding and Swallowing Management Program for Long-Term Care

The purpose of the revised version of the TTMD is to provide long-term care facilities with a comprehensive dysphagia management program that combines best practice, education and a structured approach to interdisciplinary care to enhance the safety and quality of life for residents.

Getting Started
  • Systematic Identification

Systematically identify residents in long-term care who have feeding and swallowing disorders with the use of a standard screening form

  • Identify residents who require a full assessment by a Speech-Language Pathologist

Use of the TTMD-R will identify residents with dysphagia who require further assessment and rehabilitation of their swallowing disorder by a speech-language pathologist. The use of the program helps to streamline referrals by building the capacity of the interdisciplinary team.

  • Formulate a Management Plan

Determine an appropriate diet texture and liquid consistency and a basic management plan for residents with swallowing impairments.

  • Education Programs for Staff

Implement standard feeding and swallowing education for staff to reduce the risk of problems associated with dysphagia in long-term care such as aspiration pneumonia, malnutrition and choking.
